Never underestimate the power of it. A brief,
incomplete look at the crushed fiberglass
and polyfiber formerly known as a 2002 Dodge Neon
and we’re off, chasing the x vs. y of the scene.
I’ve seen this twist of blue before, one night in the rain
on the side of a Tennessee highway. Only the bluebirds
carried more of it on another day in an Arizona canyon
and perhaps it was the red in the canyon walls
that caused such a sharp contrast, so vivid in fact,
the bluebird glows here in the overcast air of today
and this accidental gift. A small bit of poetry—
the flight, the color, the song and its echo—
all colliding, then calling and pulling in what is left:
this black and white dream, this glimpse.
