We didn't just write them for our own gratification (although we won't deny that it was gratifying). But seriously: we wrote them to help you out. We receive a large number of submissions and operate with a very small staff. Following the submission guidelines means that we will be able to consider your work as thoroughly as possible. Read the submission guidelines here.
What's With the Validation?
Why do we validate your e-mail address? We do this for a number of reasons. Mainly we want to keep things neat and orderly. By checking to see if you've ever submitted with us in the past we can do things like pre-populate our submission form for you and check to make sure that you don't already have too many works under consideration. In addition, this helps us cut down on fake submissions and other abuses of our system.
